Their cheeky sense of humour often sees them in the Queen’s bad books and they rarely say the right thing but that didn’t stop Prince Philip and Prince Harry from carrying out their first joint engagement yesterday.

Harry, 29, joined his 92-year-old grandfather to open the Field of Remembrance at London’s Westminster Abbey.

They spent nearly an hour meeting returned servicemen from the Royal British Legion as they were led around the 100,000 crosses that have been planted in memory of soldier who lost their lives in battle.

Both men were dressed dashingly in official dress coats, but Harry really stood out from the crowd with his large red ceremonial collar.

Philip opens the Field of Remembrance every year but this is the first time he has been joined by Harry.

The younger royal’s presence sparked speculation he could be poised to take over the annual duty as Philip’s advancing age forces him to cut down the number of engagements he carries out each year.
