Kate Middleton’s tribute choice: she wore spots, will she wear red?

Kate and Will are due to present their baby Princess to the world and everyone is wondering: will Kate honour Diana again, the way she did with Prince George?

When Kate Middleton emerged out of the front of Lindo Wing in London, after giving birth to her first child, the world went crazy. Most of the hysteria was centred around the little bundle in her arms, her brand new son, Prince George of Cambridge. But as the media and public began to analyse, as they are wont to do, the style and print of Kate’s dress became the most popular topic of discussion.

Kate, of course, is no stranger to fashion scrutiny. She is a world famous icon, and is watched to such affect that her style choices are often accompanied by what the media has coined as ‘The Kate Middleton Effect’, where the brands and styles she wears often sell out within minutes. Neither is she a stranger to being compared to her famous and highly lauded mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales. The comparisons drawn between the two began since Kate’s introduction into royal life in university, and haven’t stopped since. Prince William solidified the link when he proposed to Kate with his mother’s famous sapphire engagement ring.

But this comparison was neither a nasty jab, nor an attempt to undermine one or the other, but an acknowledgement of the tribute paid by Kate with her dress.

The simple powder blue, spotted dress was made bespoke for Kate by one of her favourite designers, Jenny Packham, at a special request. When looking at the two new mothers side-by-side, you cannot help but notice the similarities.

And now, as Kate has given birth to her second child, a daughter, more and more people are wondering if history will repeat itself once again.

Will she honour Diana once again, and wear a red dress?

Diana famously chose a bright red and white dress for the presentation of her second son, Prince Henry “Harry” of Wales, and speculation has arisen that Kate is planning to do the same.

In the last few weeks, we are left to wonder – will she? And more importantly for some, which one?
