Known for her sleek shifts and pillbox hats, Jackie Kennedy’s sophisticated style was adored by women all over the world – and it seems Kate Middleton hasn’t shied away from taking style cues from the former First Lady.
As the Duchess touched down in Wellington today with her husband, Prince William and baby Prince George she sent fashionable hearts aflutter with an enchanting scarlet ensemble that looked strikingly similar to that worn by Jackie O on the cover of LIFE magazine.
The déjà vu set in when the queen-to-be was spotted wearing a scarlet Catherine Walker coat and a matching red Gina Foster pillbox hat as she stepped of the plane in Wellington. Some were reminded of the famous May 1961 LIFE cover which featured a smiling Jackie O in Canada for her husband’s first state visit wearing a skirt suit in Mountie-uniform red and a pillbox hat almost identical to that worn by the Duchess of Cambridge.
It’s not the first time fashionable parallels have been drawn between Kate and one of history’s most stylish women. Some have even said the new mother is the contemporary Jackie O.
