When a sibling welcomes a new baby, you’d be hard pressed not to find its aunts and uncles running for the first cuddle… unless you’re the Middletons, it seems.
Pippa Middleton gave birth to a baby boy on Monday, but her older sister Duchess Catherine still hasn’t visited her, or met her new nephew.
It’s no secret that the sisters have always been close, with the pair being each others maids of honour for their respective weddings. So it seems somewhat out of character for Kate not to be rushing to her sisters bedside… until you hear her reasoning.
The Duchess of Cambridge and her husband Prince William put out a statement saying the pair were “thrilled” for Pippa and her husband James Matthews on the birth of their little boy, but they haven’t been able to meet him due to prior commitments and a desire to keep things cool, calm and collected.
Catherine attended a charity engagement on Tuesday which meant she was unable to visit Pippa who is staying in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, the same place where she gave birth to her three children.
In a statement from the court circular, the Duchess attended the charity meeting with experts convened by the Royal Foundation to discuss the “charitable ‘Early Years’ initiative”.

Meanwhile, The Express reported that Duchess Catherine isn’t likely to visit Pippa at all in hospital because she doesn’t want to cause a media frenzy.
The reasoning seems fair enough, especially considering Pippa didn’t visit her sister in hospital following the births of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Pippa’s new baby, who was born weighing 8lb 9oz is doing “very well” according to a source.
We’re yet to see any pictures or hear the name of the new baby, but in September, Alex Apati of Ladbrokes told OK! Online: “The early betting suggests Pippa will follow in Kate’s footsteps by choosing a traditional name for her first-born.”
And if Pippa’s openness about her pregnancy is anything to go by, we’re pretty sure we’ll be getting some adorable updates in no time.
Throughout her pregnancy, Pippa wrote a monthly column for Waitrose magazine, where she discussed how her fitness routine had changed, and the woes of donning a growing baby bump.
“I feel far from a ballerina, but I’m equally determined not to break into a penguin-style waddle and plod around with bad posture,” she humorously wrote.
