Duchess Catherine is known for her ethereal, fairytale-esque energy, a person seemingly far removed from any sense of normality.
And with that in mind, it’s easy to forget she’s actually a human just like any of us – and she just served up the best reminder of it during a phone call.
Shared in an update on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s official Instagram account this week, Kate’s phone call with one of the subjects of her photography project and book, Hold Still involved a rather quirky revelation.
Jason Baird of Stockport in the UK shared his story of lockdown, where he decided to find a moment of light relief for himself and others throughout its duration.
Jason dressed up as Spider-Man and walked through his neighbourhood for children to come to their windows and see the comic character in real life.
“It was such a wonderful positive image of community spirit,” Kate told Jason during the call.
As she heard more about Jason’s story, including that he was a marital arts teacher and giving the whole Spider-Man thing some context, Kate squeezed in a quick joke.
“Might have to buy William a suit. Unfortunately, I’m not so sure he’s going to get the air clearance that you’ve got,” she laughed.
“I’ll see if it takes on the trend here at Kensington Palace.”
There is no doubt Kate and William’s three young kids, Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, five and Prince Louis, two, would absolutely love to see their dad in costume.
The family spent much of lockdown at their country home in Norfolk, but have since returned to their London base at Kensington Palace.
Whilst George and Charlotte are busy attending school, little Louis started nursery at the beginning of this year.
Jason can relate to the royals, having two young kids himself.
“Obviously they can’t go out and they can’t see their friends, so it was more a case of trying to just bring a few smiles and stuff,” he explained as to where the Spider-Man idea came from.
“Literally from that day one, we had all the children in the area playing Spider-Man out the window, dressing up as Spider-Man, they had signs in the window, ‘Spider-Man stop outside my house’ and stuff.”
