The royal couple, who have spent the past week off-duty at the Queen’s Balmoral estate in Scotland, will kick off their “Wales away day” on November 8 with a visit to the Valero Pembroke Refinery – a huge company which employs more than 1,200 local people and supplies more than 10 per cent of the UK’s fuel.
Prince William and the Duchess, who used to live in Anglesey off the north west coast of Wales, are making the visit to commemorate 50 years since the refinery was officially opened by The Queen Mother in 1964.
The trip will highlight the positive impact the refinery has on the Welsh community and the royals will tour the plant and meet with workers and representatives from various community organisations who are supported by the refinery.
Also included on the official royal itinerary is an unveiling of a plaque and painting by a local artist and a performance by the Young Actors Studio, who work in partnership with the refinery through The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
It will be Kate and Wills first visit to Wales since the Duchess announced she was expecting their second child.
The pair will also attend the Rugby Union International match between Wales and Australia’s Wallabies at the Millennium stadium, Cardiff which will no doubt delight Prince William who is the vice patron of the Welsh Rugby Union.
