The place of religion holds meaning to the family, as it happens to be the location where the christening of the tot’s two cousins, Princess Leonore and Prince Nicolas, also took place.

Throughout the special day, the couple’s first child donned a traditional cotton and lace christening gown – a garment that has been in the family’s possession since Prince Gustaf Adolf’s baptism in 1906.

Previous generations of royal bubs have worn the special robe, including Prince Alexander’s own father, Prince Carl, and his aunties, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine, who were also in attendance with their little ones.

Guests arrived for the joyous occasion at around 11am for the service which began at noon.

Baby Alexander was baptised using water from a spring on the island of Öland, a tradition that has stood for many years in his family.

After the beautiful proceedings, the proud parents allowed family and friends to come forward and wish their son well, before the party were then treated to a celebratory lunch and reception at the palace.
