Every Christmas Eve, Human Nature crooner Andrew Tierney and his wife Heather give each other a gift of festive pyjamas. It’s always the first present they exchange, and it means they wake up on December 25 already in the Christmas spirit.
“Now we include our gorgeous little Violette in the tradition,” says Andrew.
It’s important for Andrew, and the other members of Human Nature, to keep their Christmas traditions alive.
The group is currently performing in Vegas, so Christmas feels a little different.
Phil Burton, who loves to serve up a big Christmas feast of seafood with his wife Justine, says they have to work extra hard to recreate an Aussie Christmas in the middle of the desert.
“Being Australian means it doesn’t really feel like Christmas without a good heap of fresh seafood on the table,” Phil says.
“Unfortunately it’s a little challenging to source in the middle of the desert in the middle of winter, but we still make sure to go and get some prawns to sit alongside the hot food. It gives us just a little taste of home.
Luckily, the group, which is more like a family, has an enduring musical connection that means no matter where they are, they can celebrate with song and instantly feel at home.
“Singing Carols and Christmas songs is something we have done as a family and as a group for as long as I can remember,” Andrew says.
“The songs always help Christmas start early and I honestly never get sick of them … even the cheesy ones.”
