In the ever-changing landscape of Australian television, few shows have matched the success of Home And Away. The iconic drama, which has enjoyed 36 seasons since it launched in 1988, continues to be a popular fixture on our screens, this year claiming the Logie for Most Popular Drama Series.
It’s a back-to-back win (after taking home the statuette in 2022 too) for the show against strong competition.
“There were amazing shows in that category, so we figured our only chance was that it’s a Popular category and we’ve been rating well for a number of years,” 2010 Gold Logie Award winner Ray Meagher, 79, tells TV WEEK.
“It was unexpected, but we’re simply delighted.”
In an additional celebration, five cast members – Ray, James Stewart, Emily Symons, Lynne McGranger and Ada Nicodemou – were all nominated for individual awards, proving their connection to the viewing public is stronger than ever.
“The best drama finds a way to evolve and bring the audience along with you,” Georgie Parker, 58, says of their success. “One of the strengths of our writers is that they give people something to engage with.”
With their audience front of mind and continuing success, the future of Home And Away looks sunnier than a Summer Bay sky.
“Our audience never get lost,” Ray says. “We have a strong body of regular characters, with fresh faces coming into tell their stories every few years. But when the audience turn on and see one of the oldies, they know what show it is. They know they’re in Summer Bay.”
