If there is one friendship that has withstood the testament of time, it is Hamish Blake and Andy Lee.

Every Australian can recall the hilarious Logie Award-winning series, Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year where the comedic duo would travel to random destinations around the globe and ultimately make a complete mess of themselves.

This series was launched in 2011, but Hamish and Andy were friends long before that having met while studying at the University of Melbourne together in 2001.

After meeting for the first time, their bromance took centre stage in comedy competitions and just after one year of meeting they began a career in radio on a community station.

It didn’t take long for their career to skyrocket, becoming the highest rating radio program in Australian history during the 2000s.

But bros that make chaotic shows together, make chaotic mistakes together – like a life banning from entering the Olympic village…

In 2012, the pair received a ban from the International Olympic Committee amid the London games after sneaking into the village.

At the time, Andy and Hamish were to speak to the Australian Olympians before it started, but Andy’s forms were incorrectly filled out – meaning he couldn’t enter despite it being a clear error.

“Someone who filled out the forms put my birth date as that day’s date,” Andy revealed on Triple M’s The Rush House with Leisel Jones, Liam & Dobbo in July 2024. “I won’t name who, but someone on the team said, ‘Hey, I can bring an outfit out. You look a little bit like one of the high jumpers’.”

Andy snuck in with someone else’s pass, “which was obviously a huge breach of security.” The comedic duo “had a ball” mingling with the athletes for 90 minutes until the security team figured out they’d been tricked.

“They dragged us and put us in separate rooms and there was a lot of interrogation,” Andy added.

It’s clear that moments like this have only made their bond stronger. To this day, Hamish and Andy have one of the most beloved friendships in Australia.

They also still work together with their own Hamish & Andy weekly podcast – however, we would love a Gap Year TV series revival.
