Duchess Catherine has donated several inches of her famous mane to a charity that provides wigs for young people who lose hair during cancer treatment, ‘The Little Princess Trust.’
The 36-year-old is believed to have come up with the thoughtful idea while her hairdresser, Joey Wheeler, was working his magic during a routine cut at Kensington Palace.
“Four months ago Joey persuaded her it was time to take off some of her hair, he said it was just getting too long,” a royal source told The Daily Express. “While Joey was snipping away the idea came to her of doing some good with it rather than throwing it away. She mentioned it to Joey, who thought it was a brilliant idea.”
The insider said the apparent donation was sent anonymously.
“It was sent using someone else’s name, so that the trust didn’t know it was from a royal source – they just thought it was from a female donor in the Kensington area,” they said.
“It’s lovely to think somewhere a little girl is happily wearing a wig made from a real princess’s hair. It’s a very heartwarming thing for Kate to have done, and very thoughtful to use hair that would have otherwise just been thrown away.”
It’s not clear how many inches the expectant royal may have donated, but the charity specifies it accepts minimum donations of 7in-12in (17cm-30cm) of “good-condition hair.”
Helen Creese, a spokeswoman for the the charity, described the gesture as a “great surprise.”
“It’s a complete surprise. Obviously we’re all absolutely delighted that she donated her hair, and we’re very grateful as well, just as we’re grateful to everyone who chooses to support the charity in this way, and so many people do. We’re assuming that she might have sent the donation anonymously.”
Adding that the charity receives anonymous donations from time to time, she continued: “It’s such a selfless act anyway to donate your hair to help a sick child or young adult.”

The mother of Prince George and Princess Charlotte is expected to welcome her third little prince or princess in April, but she’s showing no signs of slowing down!
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are due to embark on their four-day royal tour of Sweden and Norway this week.
Their royal tour will consist of many routine activities like meeting and dining with fellow royals, walkabouts, viewing galleries and gardens but the Swedes have also decided to bump it up a notch.
Injecting their portion of the trip with Hollywood royalty, the couple are expected to rub shoulders with stars Stellan Skarsgård and Alicia Vikander during a swanky black tie dinner at the residence of the British Ambassador.
Norwegian fans needn’t worry though — Wills and Kate will be dazzled by Oslo’s stunning views, complete with a ski jump at Holmenkollen and a visit at the Hartvig Nissen School, where the popular teen drama Skam is filmed.
It’s believed George and Charlotte will remain at home to focus on their schooling.
