Following her appearance at the Commonwealth Day celebrations, Kate is busy at work again!
On Tuesday afternoon, Duchess Catherine hosted a secret meeting at Kensington Palace with people from British Tennis, Wimbledon and We Are Coach Core along with prolific people in tennis including Andy Murray’s mum Judy and retired pro-player Tim Henman.
Kate’s been very busy!
The round table meeting was not publicly featured on the royal’s agenda.
Kate pulled together the chat, so that they could brainstorm children’s tennis initiatives in the UK.
The Palace shared, “The Duchess of Cambridge today met with representatives from @BritishTennis and @Wimbledon, @WeAreCoachCore,@JudyMurray and Tim Henman to discuss children’s tennis initiatives in the UK and access to the sport at grassroots level.”
Kate is an avid tennis player.
The Duchess is hugely passionate about the iconic British pastime, being a keen player herself.
In fact, Catherine has cross-pollinated her hobby into her royal duties as the patron for the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC).
Earlier this year, the pregnant mum shared, “I love tennis. I think it’s a great sport, I was really sporty when I was little, less so now that I’ve got lots of babies,” she added, patting her belly.
She also admitted that she’s teaching her little ones the sport.
George and Charlotte are both learning the sport!
Catherine chatted to Lawn Tennis Association coach Sam Richardson, back in October, asking for any tips for George who was learning how to play.
The mum explained that he just “wants to whack a ball”
Sam recounted, “She says with George just being four he wants to whack a ball, so she was asking what sort of stuff should she be doing. They will struggle at that age to hit a ball. She said he’s interested in it, but more in whacking the ball.”
Meanwhile, Charlotte is learning the game at London’s exclusive Hurlingham Club.
Seeing Kate and Wills at Wimbledon is a British dream.
Who can forget when the beloved royal featured on a BBC documentary celebrating Wimbledon, where Kate explained it was the soundtrack to her childhood.
“Growing up I, sort of, watched, obviously watched Wimbledon, it’s been very much part of my family growing up,” she remarked.
Adding: “It’s such [a] quintessential part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires youngsters, myself, it inspired me, when I was younger, to get involved in the game.”

“It hasn’t changed either, I think that’s what’s so wonderful.”
“You know everyone’s still there in their whites, Wimbledon still looks as amazing as it did as I remember it as a youngster, you’ve got the strawberries and cream.”
She continued, “And, you know, every time Wimbledon is on I’m there thinking, ‘Yes, I can do, I can do the same’. Get that racket. Sadly never, never the same results.”
