Duchess Catherine has publicly declared that she and Prince William “wouldn’t hesitate” to seek support and assistance if Prince George or Princess Charlotte ever needed assistance with their mental health.
The Duchess of Cambridge made the comments as she pledged support for one of her charities, the Anna Freud Centre, who is launching a podcast series designed to help parents understand children’s mental health.
The mother-of-two urged other parents to throw off the stigma of mental health and to overcome their discomfort in seeking help, should their child need it.
“It doesn’t need to be like this,” Catherine said.
“With the right help, children have a good chance of overcoming their issues while they are still young, and can have the bright future they deserve.
She cited the powerful statistic that one third of all adults “say they would be embarrassed to seek help for their child’s mental health”.

She likened mental issues to physical ones, in a bid to create higher understanding.
“No parent would fail to call the doctor if their child developed a fever, yet some children are tackling tough time without the support that can help them, because the adults in their life are scared to ask,” the Duchess explained.
“Through my work with family and child support organisations, one thing that has stood out to me time and again is that getting early support for a child who is struggling to cope is the best possible thing we can do to help our children as they grow.”
The Duchess continued: “Knowing this, both William and I feel very strongly that we wouldn’t hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte if they need it.”
The podcast series she was lending her support to is called Child in Mind, and consists of 20-minute episodes aimed at helping parents to understand and assist with their family’s mental health.
