The royals celebrate as Duchess Catherine Kate reveals that she’s expecting a little princess!
Thrilled Kate, who was given the happy news early last week, is telling her closest friends and family she’ll give birth to a daughter in April next year, and palace insiders suspect she and her husband will make an official announcement in the very near future.
While they kept George’s gender a surprise until his birth, during her recent ultrasound, Kate and William decided that this time around they’d like to be prepared. Clutching Wills’s hand, a close source reveals Kate “teared up” and whispered “I knew it!” when doctors revealed the happy news.
British punters have already picked a girl as their favourite too – bookmakers have been inundated with bets on the royal baby’s gender – with a little princess as the odds-on favourite.
More than four months into her second pregnancy, Catherine’s suspicions about having a girl began when her cravings took a strange turn.
With baby George, once her hyperemesis gravidarum had subsided, Kate was ravenous for savouries such as curries and chilli con carne.
But this time, we’re told, the 32-year-old is continually reaching for the biscuit jar, cupcakes and especially raspberry ripple ice-cream – and the royal kitchen can barely keep up with demand.
“She’s like a kid in a candy store, it’s hilarious!” says a palace insider.
“When Carole was pregnant with Kate and her sister Pippa, she indulged in every sweet she could get her hands on,” says a Middleton family friend, adding that Carole’s cravings weren’t nearly as strong when she was expecting James.
“Kate’s ecstatic. She always hoped number two would be a girl, and having it confirmed has given her a huge boost,” says a source, who adds the new nurseries at Kensington Palace and their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk, will be decorated in pink hues – not to mention the contents of the wardrobes!
When it comes to Prince William’s preference, his brother Prince Harry has joked with glee that, after being raised in a family of boys, the future king is daunted at the thought of raising a daughter.
“He’ll suffer,” joked Harry. “I’d love to see him cope with that.”
No matter whether it’s a boy or a girl – one thing’s for sure, little Prince George will be THRILLED about having a younger sibling to play with! Prince Harry also said: “I think George will be thrilled about having a brother or sister.”
