Does Prince William disapprove of cousin Beatrice’s boyfriend Dave Clark?

When it comes to your significant other, it doesn’t get much more important than your families’ tick of approval.
Prince William and Princess Beatrice

So spare a thought for Princess Beatrice of York whose boyfriend of nearly a decade, Dave Clark, is apparently not rating very well in Prince William’s books.

A source tells The Mail On Sunday Bea’s older cousin Wills has never been too fond of her other half, despite introducing them back in the day when the lads attended St Andrews University in Scotland together.

“William isn’t a huge fan of Dave. It’s fair to say that if Beatrice had asked the Queen for permission to marry Dave, and she in turn asked William privately for his view, she may not have been given a glowing report,” the insider explained.

Luckily for the 26-year-old she no longer needs to consult her grandmother, The Queen, on who she weds as the source added: “The move in succession is fortunate for Dave and Beatrice in that respect.”

According to The Succession Of The Crown Act, only the first six in line to the British throne have to consult The Queen with whom they wish to betroth.

Thankfully since William and Kate welcomed their second child earlier this month, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Beatrice has been bumped down to safe number seven and thus Granny’s opinion on her Virgin-Galactic-exec-turned-Uber-driver beau is now redundant.

The insider goes on to reveal that although William “has always been wary” of Dave and there is a “clash of personalities” there, Beatrice’s parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson hold him in very high regard.

Perhaps Beatrice, who has been circled by unconfirmed engagement rumours since New Year’s Eve, will just ensure she doesn’t bring along Dave when she pops into Buckingham Palace for tea with Lizzie!

The couple have been together for almost a decade.
