Winona Ryder defends ex Johnny Depp against abuse claims

The actress declares her support for the man who once tattooed her name on his arm.

The actress spoke with Time Magazine following Johnny’s shocking divorce saga with Amber Heard playing out in the courts.

The 44-year-old actress called the accusations of abuse “unimaginable”.

“He was never, never that way towards me,” she told the publication.

“Never abusive at all towards me.”

She further clarified that she was only speaking from what she had directly experienced, noting that it was “wildly different than what is being said.”

She continued with her praise for her Edward Scissorhands co-star and former fiance.

“I only know him as a really good, loving, caring guy who is very, very protective of the people he loves,” Winona said of the 53-year-old.

The Black Swan actress continued, tiptoeing around any references to Amber.

“I wasn’t there,” she reiterated.

“I don’t know what happened. I’m not calling anyone a liar.”

“I’m just saying, it’s difficult and upsetting for me to wrap my head around it.

“Look, it was a long time ago, but we were together for four years, and it was a big relationship for me.”

She continued: “It’s just shocking. I’ve never seen him be violent towards a person before.”

The showbiz pair were an “it couple” in the 1990s, getting engaged when Winona was just 19.

Johnny famously had the actress’s name tattooed on his arm.

The tattoo “Winona forever” was later changed to “Wino forever”.
