Not only does she star in blockbuster films, give impassioned speeches on women’s rights in her role as an ambassador for the UN but she also writes (by hand!) proper thank you letters.
The recipient of her thank you note was Steve Carrell, who supported Watson’s campaign heforshe, which seeks to make men allies in the fight for gender equality, by wearing heforshe cufflinks by jewellery designer Monique Péan.
Watson tweeted her thank you note to Carrell (she also wrote a similar note for American Sniper Jake McDorman who also wore the cufflinks in support of heforshe) and it is the sweetest thing.
The note to Carell, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Foxcatcher, begins:
“Dear Steve Carell,
You were pure genius in “Little Miss Sunshine” (one of my all time favourite films), my brother became obsessed with you after “Anchorman”, I wanted to marry you or have you adopt me after “Crazy, Stupid, Love”, I hated that guy you played in “The Way Way Back”, and then you were mind-blowing in “Foxcatcher”. I think you’re so awesome and today you are wearing #HeForShe Monique Péan cufflinks at the Oscars to support Gender Equality. Couldn’t be more proud! THANK YOU.
Love,
Emma x”
Carell, ever the gracious star that he is, tweeted his thanks back to Watson.
Watson made waves last year with her speech to the United Nations in which she implored people to not think of women’s rights as ‘man-hating’ and wear the feminist badge (or cuff links!) with pride.
In Watson’s words: “For the record, feminism by definition is: ‘The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.'”
Here’s to a year of feminist fashion statements.
