After nearly a decade of marriage, Ada and Chrys Xipolitas broke up last year.

For months Ada Nicademou has been determined not to let the world see her heartache, hiding the fact that she split from her restaurateur husband Chrys Xipolitas back in November when he moved out of their family home.

Now, a close family friend says that both are “relieved” that the news of their breakup is finally out in the open, after neither wanted to admit that it was over.

In the latest issue of Woman’s Day, a family friend reveals the cracks began to show as the anniversary of their son Harrison – who was delivered stillborn at 8 months in 2014 – approached.

“It all started going wrong around the one-year anniversary of Harrison’s passing in August,” explained the close family friend.

“Chrys went into a Sydney clinic for six weeks because he hadn’t dealt with Harrison’s death properly. He has a history of depression and anxiety and losing a child was really tough on both of them.”

Ada has spoken publicly about her struggle to cope with their tragic loss and the affect it had on their marriage. “We will never be the same people we were,” she said last year. “I just feel I can never be completely happy again because this has happened.”

After the tragic loss of their second son Harrison, insiders say Ada sought professional help but Chrys was more reluctant.

Ada went to see a therapist in the year after Harrison’s tragic passing, while also leaning on her mother and brother for support, Chrys soldiered on insisting he didn’t professional help. Instead, he chose to mask his feelings and self-medicate, which put incredible pressure on their relationship.

As Woman’s Day previously reported, rumours of a marital split first surfaced weeks ago when 38-year-old Ada headed off on a P&O Cruise with her mother, leaving behind her restaurateur husband, with whom she shares three-year-old son Johnas.
