The alleged biological mother of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, spoke out earlier this year about her desire to connect with the pre-teen.
Talking through an interpreter, Mentewab Dawit Lebiso, who lives in Ethiopia, told the Daily Mail that she’d love to reach out to Zahara.
“I just want her to know that I am alive and here and long to be able to speak with her. I do not want my daughter back but just to be in contact with her and be able to call her up and talk with her,” Mentewab shared.
She added, “Angelina has been more of a mother to her than I have ever been. She has been with her since she was a baby, but that does not mean I do not miss her. I miss her all the time.”
“I think about her every day and long to hear her voice or see her face. I know when she has a birthday but I am sad because I can’t celebrate it with her.”
“I would so much want to celebrate with her on her birthday and other special days… I long to be able to have regular contact with her.”
Zahara was just six-months-old when Angelina adopted her as a single mother in 2005.
Brad requested to legally adopt her a year later.
Speaking about the incredible person her daughter has become, Angie told Hello! magazine in April that “the sound of Zahara’s laugh” is what makes her smile the most.
“She is one of those people who laughs with her whole body. Completely open and full of joy,” the director mused.
How old is Zahara Jolie-Pitt?
Zahara was born on Jan. 8, 2005, making her 12 years old.
Though she was born more than a year after older brother Pax, she was adopted before him.
Where was Zahara Jolie-Pitt born?
The beauty was born in Ethiopia.
Her birth mother, Mentewab, explained in January that she was 19-years-old when she conceived Zahara after a brutal rape.
“My baby was sick, and I was very weak and sick after birth. I agreed that she should be put up for adoption but if I had my chance again I would have kept her,” she admitted.
However, in a 2007 interview with The Mail on Sunday, Mentewab claimed she had run away, leaving Zahara with her grandmother, who eventually put the baby up for adoption.
Mentewab said she was hopeful that Angelina would be open to a reunion one day. “I would ask Angelina to let me speak with [Zahara]. I do not think it is too much to ask,” she said.
