Just last month, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie rung in their second wedding anniversary with a celebratory evening at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
It appeared love was alive and well for Hollywood’s pin-up couple.
But today, as the actress released an official statement through her lawyer, revealing that “this decision was made for the health of the family,” it appears Angelina is a woman in fight mode, doing whatever it takes to protect their kids Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox, eight.
So where did it all go so wrong for Brangelina?
Was there another woman?
According to Page Six, Angie hired a private detective to unearth Brad’s alleged affair with his Allied co-star, Marion Cotillard.
“She hired a private eye because she felt that he was fooling around with her on the set, and it turns out, he was. And that was the final straw,” an insider told the publication.
A source close to the French actress has slammed the claims and insists she is still “very much together” with her director husband, Guillaume Canet.
“Marion and Guillaume are blissfully happy, and these kind of claims are not what Marion wants to be hearing,” another pal explained to the Daily Mail.
“Claims that she’s cheating on Guillaume with Brad will leave her absolutely devastated. This doesn’t sound like her at all.”

Angelina’s father, actor Jon Voight, has commented on his daughter’s divorce bombshell and his revelations are shocking!
According to the 77-year-old, who was estranged from his daughter for nearly a decade, he believes “something very serious must have happened for Angie to make a decision like this.”
“It’s very sad. I don’t know what it is. Say a little prayer. I am concerned for Angie and the children and hopefully I will be seeing them very soon,” he told Inside Edition.
Jon believes “something very serious must have happened” in her daughter’s marriage.
Clashing over parenting styles
Angelina’s scathing statement makes it very clear she fears for the safety of her children. She is seeking full custody of the kids and only giving Brad visitation rights.
Sources claim the mother-of-six loathed Brad’s strict parenting style, while she was more liberal with her approach.
“Brad was parenting the children. She was extremely upset with his methods,” a source told TMZ.
Speaking to E! News attorney Troy Slaten explained the fact Angelina is wanting sole custody of their kids might “mean [she] thinks that [Brad] is doing something that is endangering her children.”
“In order for the court to grant a request like that- giving one parent sole physical custody – the judge has to have clear and convincing evidence. It’s a standard that’s in between preponderance of the evidence and beyond a reasonable doubt that that is what’s in the best interest of the children.”
Brangie apparently had very different parenting styles.
Once a party boy, always a party boy
Insiders close to the couple cite Brad’s boredom with the quiet life they had started to live.
“When Angelina underwent her mastectomy in 2013, her health and life in general became a priority for her. Her views on life changed. Suddenly she saw herself walking in her late mother’s shoes – and she was no longer that wild, fun loving woman she used to be, she was taking things a lot more seriously,” a pal explained to the Daily Mail.
Soon after their 2014 wedding at the Château Miraval in the south of France, the couple’s different directions reportedly started to come to the fore.
“Angelina wasn’t into wasting time on frivolous matters. Brad felt it was important for them to live life to the fullest, but as the months passed, Angelina seemed to withdraw, making the children and her work with the UN a priority.”
“Angelina wasn’t really interested in doing any project that took her away from the children and home, but Brad was still wanting the wanderlust, adventure-filled life that first attracted him to her,” the source tells.
According to TMZ, Brad’s apparent dabbling in booze and drugs pushed her over the edge.
“Angelina reached her breaking point last week over Brad’s consumption of weed and alcohol, and combined with what she says are Brad’s anger issues. His interactions with the kids created a deal breaking problem for her,” the website claims.
People also reports that Brad would often jet to their chateau in France to escape when their fighting got out of hand.
Friends say Brad craved the thrill of his formative wild child years.
Was their movie the kiss of death?
Their 2015 drama By The Sea, in which Brangelina played a troubled couple, was labelled as a brave move. The irony wasn’t lost on Angelina, who directed and starred in the film.
“A few friends asked if we were crazy…[A film about] a married couple going through some difficulties…and I’m directing him,” she told Vanity Fair.
But the 41-year-old later explained to The Telegraph the film was in no way a reflection of their own marriage.
“Brad and I have our issues, but if the characters were even remotely close to our problems we couldn’t have made the film. To be clear: we have fights and problems like any other couple,” she told.
“We have days when we drive each other absolutely mad and want space, but the problems in the movie aren’t our specific problems.”
Life imitating art? Brangie starred in the 2015 film By The Sea, which documents a couple on the brink of a split.
Health woes
According to a recent report from OK! USA, the Inglourous Basterds star was livid with his wife, who underwent a double mastectomy and had her ovaries removed, because she “barely eats, she guzzles wine every night and she smokes constantly.”
And while the 52-year-old was happy to support his wife and ignore the behaviours while she was going through her health crisis, he was said to be annoyed she didn’t do anything to keep herself healthy following her major surgeries or get her weight up.
Brad was said to be concerned for Angie’s health.
