It was the moment we all watched peering through our hands. While announcing the 2017 Academy Award winner for Best Picture, arguably the biggest gong of the night, Warren Beatty read out the wrong film.
The production team of La La Land were well into their acceptance speech for Best Picture, when it was revealed the wrong winner had been announced, and that Moonlight was the category winner.
And just because we all didn’t suffer enough from the awkward situation last year, Warren Beatty and his co-presenter Faye Dunaway were asked back to the 90th Academy Awards show to present the same award again.
The crowd watched on in amusement as Warren and Faye proudly took to the stage for their redo.
“It’s so nice seeing you again,” Warren greeted a giggling crowd.
Faye added: “As they say, presenting is lovelier a second time around.”
The pair did not dilly-dally on the stage, maybe for fear of another devastating mix up, and instead cut straight to naming the nominated films.
The pair appeared a little nervous when it came time to announce the winner, but thankfully did so without blunder.
Spoiler alert!
“And the Oscar goes to,” Warren announced while seemingly struggling with shaky hands to open the envelope.
“The Shape Of Water.”
Bravo Warren, bravo!
