David Beckham attended the launch of wife Victoria Beckham’s first store in London while the eponymous designer herself was busy attending the United Nations in New York.
Victoria, 40, has been directing her highly successful fashion range for several years now to great acclaim but up until now has never had her own retail store. That has all changed now as her first boutique has thrown open its doors in the posh location of Dover street London.
While Posh herself couldn’t be there on the big day, handsome hubby David Beckham, 39, was more than happy to show up as her representative as crowds gathered for a glimpse inside the chic, sleek and minimal interior of the high-end boutique.
The posh former Spice Girl turned fashion designer can now add UN Goodwill Ambassador to her CV as she was appointed to work with the UNAIDS agency to help in campaigning to promote an end to maternal transmission of HIV.
Victoria also worked recently with the charity mothers2mothers, which promotes the issue after what she describes as a “transformational” visit to South Africa. She even auctioned off 600 items of clothing from her wardrobe on fashion site theOutnet.com, with all funds going to the charity.
In her address at the UN, Victoria said: “South Africa was a huge turning point for me. And I don’t know, why has it taken for me to get to 40 years old to realize, I need to stand up? I need to use what I have to make a difference.”
“For some reason, people will listen to what I have to say, so I’m going to speak on behalf of the incredible women,” who are caring for children while they have HIV, she said.
