Going way, way back, jazz singer Tony Bennett is sharing candid tales from his life in his new book Just Getting Started.
The 90-year-old singer, who was born Anthony Benedetto, recalled his very first “interaction” with his now wife, Susan.
The year was 1966 and the jazz legend was 40-years-old when he met her parents, Marion and Dayl Crow, during a meet-and-greet after one of his shows.
“As fate would have it, Marion was pregnant at the time with … Susan!” Tony penned.
“It’s a photo we all laugh about, knowing the incredible turn of events that followed.”
The couple have no issues about their 40-year age difference.
And the stars don’t stop aligning there!
Susan, now 50, held a coveted position when she was a teenager – President of the Grammy winner’s San Francisco Bay Area fan club!
Tony writes about meeting Susan for the second time when she was just 19-years-old.
The persistent teen had asked if she could meet the music legend after one of his shows.
“The request was sent to me, and it tickled me that someone of her age was so devoted to my music,” he quipped.
“I not only agreed to say hello to her backstage but asked her to be my date for the evening, and that’s how it all really began… foreshadowed by a backstage photo taken in 1966!”
“I can’t say that we didn’t notice the age difference when we first met. But I can say that after all of these years together, we don’t notice it much now. We’re compatible in all ways.”
And the rest is history. Tony, who was previously married to Patricia Beech and actress Sandra Grant, tied the knot to Susan back in 2007, following 20 years of dating.
