As Katie increasingly asserts her independence, Tom tries to bring her back into the fold.
Tom Cruise is pulling out all the stops to lure Katie Holmes back into the world of Scientology, last week dragging her to a bizarre rally in the UK for the religion’s followers.
The actor – who has reluctantly agreed to his wife’s request that their three-year-old daughter, Suri, attend a Catholic preschool – jetted into Britain with Katie for the October 16 event.
It is believed to be the first time the actress has attended a Scientology event in more than five months, and follows reports that she is considering a return to her family’s Catholic faith.
The gathering, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the International Association of Scientologists, also comes amid increasing criticism in Europe of the religion, which has been described as a cult.
But Tom remains a staunch believer – taking to the stage at Saint Hill Manor in Sussex to whip the 4000 faithful attendees into a frenzy.
“Because we never took our eyes off the ultimate prize, we stand where we are today,” he preached. “We are in this together.”
When a choir took to the stage, Tom was carried away in the moment – but Katie appeared much less enthusiastic.
