Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ five-year marriage is officially over, with a New York judge finalising their divorce yesterday.
The couple’s high profile union was dissolved in a Manhattan courthouse just seven weeks after Katie filed divorce papers.
Katie cited “irreconcilable differences” at the reason for the split, and asked for sole legal custody of the couple’s six-year-old daughter Suri.
Tom, Katie and their legal teams met days after the documents were filed to hammer out a divorce settlement and custody arrangement.
Tom, 50, agreed to let his estranged wife have primary residential custody of Suri and consented to a generous child support payment.
Katie will also walk away from the marriage with a portion of the couple’s sizeable property portfolio and a “good will payment” of several million dollars as a reward for the speedy settlement.
It is Katie’s first divorce, and Tom’s third. He split from his first wife Mimi Rogers in 1990 and his second wife Nicole Kidman in 2001.
