Sarah Abo named new Today show co-host after Allison Langdon’s depature

After it was announced that Allison Langdon would be replacing Tracy Grimshaw on A Current Affair, many wondered who would take over as co-host on the Today Show.

Well, Channel Nine has now announced that Sarah Abo, who has covered for Ally on Today in the past, will join Karl Stefanovic permanently from January next year.

Sarah is currently a presenter on 60 Minutes and has previous experience from SBS and Ten.

Sarah Abo will replace Allison Langdon as Karl Stefanovic’s co-host on the Today Show.

She also hosted one of the leaders’ debates during the last federal election campaign and for SBS, covered the 2016 US presidential election.

Talking about her new role as co-host, Sarah said that while the breakfast show’s 3am start time will “be an adjustment”, she’s “looking forward to keeping Karl on his toes”.

Sarah also praised her predecessor and said: “I know Ally will make a success of the move to ACA and I can’t wait to watch her in the chair.”

Ally has worked for Nine for twenty years and has been the co-host of Today since January 2020.

Nine announced she would move to ACA via Instagram, saying: “For over two decades, she’s been one of television’s most trusted voices with a world of experience. Fearless and razor sharp.”

“In 2023, A Current Affair welcomes Ally Langdon. A new era.”

Allison is leaving the Today Show to host A Current Affair.

“Ally has built her career on trust, empathy and a commitment to journalistic excellence. She will start on air on Monday January 30, 2023.”

Responses were mixed, with some excited to see Ally take over the iconic role, and others sceptical.

As for Karl, he congratulated Ally during Monday morning’s Today episode.

“Allison Langdon, everyone – the new host of A Current Affair, of course. Congratulations, Ally,” the presenter said at the top of the show.

However, he then – in true Karl Stefanovic fashion – joked non-stop about Ally’s departure.

For instance, when a promo teased Sarah as Ally’s Today Show replacement, the 48-year-old quipped: “out with the old and in with the new.”

“When you say things like that I can’t wait to go,” Ally replied.

“And we can’t wait to shove you off. It’s going to be a wonderful week of celebrations,” Karl teased back.
