TV’s famous Wheel Of Fortune is finally spinning again, with energetic entertainer Tim Campbell, 32, as its host. The former Home And Away star tells Woman’s Day he’s having a blast getting into the role made famous by John Burgess.

You and Anthony Callea came out as a couple a few weeks after you told a newspaper you were gay. Was that a big deal for you?

Yes and no. I came out when I was 20 and my family and friends were very supportive. Most people have never asked me about my personal life. The only thing I was a bit nervous about was, will it affect my chances if I audition for more roles like “the sensible dad” I played on Home And Away? I hope people will see me as the same actor I’ve always been, not as “the gay host”. I mean, is it really that interesting?

Well, it certainly hasn’t affected your work, has it?

No. I’m soon to be hosting a celebrity version of Singing Bee on Nine. Plus Ed and Shelley Craft and I have just been competing together in an episode of Hole In The Wall, in which we have to wiggle around in silver lycra, trying to hide our butt cracks — but that’s another story!

Do you and your partner Anthony Callea sing around together much at home?

We do, but it’s a bit intimidating because Anthony has a much stronger voice than me. He’s really busy with his own projects, of course. Right now he’s preparing for his role in the musical Wicked.

Will you bring your own style to this hosting role?

Yes. It’s an old show but we want it to make it look and feel contemporary. If I ever wear a suit, it will probably be with no tie, just an open shirt. But they’ll have to get me to clip my chest hairs first — I have a forest there!

Million Dollar Wheel Of Fortune premieres Monday, May 26 at 5pm in Queensland, 5.30pm all other states, on the Nine Network.
