The 26-year-old opened up to German newspaper Bild, on the third anniversary of her death and shared the bitter truth that their two children, Astala and Phaedra, have now lived longer than they knew their own mother.

“The routine I had to keep up with the children [after Peaches’ death] helped me a lot,” he revealed in the interview. “They have lived longer than they knew their mother. They were just one and two years. Now they are four and five.”

Thomas was left a single dad after Peaches, the daughter of Sir Bob Geldof, suffered a drug overdose at the age of 25. He recalls finding her body – with their then 11-month-old son Astala having been left in the house with her for eight hours – and then having to feed his two children lunch just an hour later.

“When I found her, I was not surprised. I thought to myself at the moment: ‘Yes of course – you had to do that,'” he recalled. “What I can remember, it must have been an hour after I’ve found it, that it’s time for the kids’ lunch.”

“They needed their lunch,” he continued. “So I took the children’s chairs to the table, took the yogurts out of the fridge, the bananas…”
