David Hasslehoff’s meltdown was made public by his very own daughter after she released a film of him drunkenly lying on the floor trying to eat a cheeseburger.
The actor later claimed that his daughter had released the video to try and teach her dad a lesson and get him to stop drinking.
Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise had a scientology meltdown on The Today show when he was asked to comment on his criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants. He told presenter Matt Lauer, “You’re glib” and said he didn’t know what he was talking about.
Tom then began a detailed discussion of the use of the prescription drug Ritalin and told Matt, “You don’t know the history of psychiatry. I do.”
Christian Bale
In 2009 audio emerged of Christian Bale losing it on the set of his movie Terminator Salvation after a crew member accidentally knocked over a light during one of his scenes.
Mariah Carey
Back in 2001, Mariah Carey randomly showed up on the set of TRL and took to the stage in just a t-shirt. She went on to hand out ice-cream to the crowd saying: “All I know is I just want one day off when I can go swimming and look at rainbows and eat ice cream. And maybe like learn how to ride a bicycle.”
She was hospitalised just days later for extreme exhaustion and a physical and emotional breakdown. Her box-office flop Glitter was blamed for her breakdown.
Kanye West
Kanye West famously crashed the stage at the MTV music awards when Taylor Swift was accepting her award for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
Kanye rushed on stage, grabbed the microphone and said: “I’m sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!”
Russell Crowe
Back in 2005, Russell Crowe pleaded guilty to assault, after he threw a telephone at a hotel concierge. Russell was trying to get in contact with his now ex-wife Danielle Spencer and couldn’t get a line out of his hotel.
He then went down to the concierge desk where the altercation took place.
Britney Spears
In 2007, Britney Spears checked herself in to a drug rehabilitation centre, she left within 24 hours and the next day shaved off her hair and attacked a pack of photographers with an umbrella. She returned to rehab weeks later for treatment.
She was again hospitalised in 2008 when she lost a custody hearing and locked herself in a room with one of her children. Soon after she was admitted to psychiatric ward and her dad was awarded control of her personal and financial affairs.
Alec Baldwin
Alec’s meltdown came when he was trying to get in touch with his daughter. he left her a voicemail in which he called her a “rude, thoughtless little pig. You don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being.”
“I don’t give a damn that you’re 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you’re a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn’t care about what you do as far as I’m concerned. Once again I have made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone,” he said.
Ann Heche
Following her breakup from Ellen in 2000, Ann had a major breakdown.
The actress was found wearing just shorts and a bra wandering around in rural California calling herself Celestia and saying she was the sister of Jesus. She them rang a stranger’s doorbell asking about a gateway to outer space and asked if she could use their shower.
She was later hospitalised.
Charlie Sheen
He has had many meltdowns, but Charlie Sheen’s most recent drug-fuelled 2011 meltdown was one of his worst. It all started when he failed to turn up to work on the set of his TV show Two and a Half Men because he was on a party weekend in Vegas.
He was subsequently fired after he called the show’s producers Nazis and claimed that he was made up of “Adonis DNA and tiger blood”. Enough said.
