Fans of the Shake It Off hitmaker will be disappointed at the absence of their idol at this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Despite being a dedicated attendee at seven out of the last eight award shows, a source close to Taylor Swift has confirmed that this year, she will be giving it a miss.
“Taylor was never scheduled to attend the VMAs,” says the insider to People.
Perhaps the fact that she received no nominations this year played a part in her decision to eschew the event, compared to last year when she took out a whopping four awards, including the coveted Video of the Year for her hit Bad Blood.
The star may be strategically avoiding an awkward run in with her ex, Calvin Harris.
The 26-year-old may also feel inclined to pass up on one of Hollywood’s more memorable events due to the expected attendance of her ex-boyfriend, Calvin Harris.
The DJ, who is up for three Moonmen at this year’s shindig, hasn’t seen his ex since their amicable split turned “hurtful” when she moved on with actor, Tom Hiddleston, just weeks after announcing their split.
Could another Hollywood A-lister be influencing her decision?
A third and very plausible reason for T-Swizzle’s absence may also be the possibility of a run-in with VMA regulars Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Funnily enough, Ye and Tay’s bad blood began seven years ago at the 2009 VMAs when he famously interrupted her acceptance speech.
The duo briefly put their differences aside long enough for Kanye to fondly namedrop her in a track on his latest album, but as we all know, that backfired rather brutally.
The two were friends… briefly.
The blonde beauty denied ever having knowledge of the lyrics “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous” despite Kanye’s insistence on a call he made informing her of the tongue-in-cheek words.
Last month, after a long he-said, she-said battle, Kim Kardashian, who has just been announced as a VMA presenter, finally put the speculation to rest by exposing the phone call, incriminating Taylor as she can be heard clearly giving Kanye the go-ahead.
