Ford, aged 71, is believed to be joining original cast members Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, now 54, to bring their much-loved characters back to the big screen when the long-awaited Star Wars: Episode VII, begins shooting within weeks.
Star Wars: Episode VII has been veiled in secrecy and rumours over the years, but Fisher recently hinted that Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia will soon be reunited on screen, three decades after they last battled Darth Vader in a galaxy far away.
“I’d like to wear my old [cinnamon buns] hairstyle again – but with white hair,” Fisher, now 57, joked to TV Guide of Leia’s famous braided hairstyle. “I think that would be funny.”
Fisher is expected to return to work alongside Hamill and Ford, whose action hero status was further cemented by his post-Star Wars starring role in the Indiana Jones trilogy, when the film begins shooting in March.
Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who made the TV series Lost and the most recent Star Trek movie. Abrams recently confirmed the script for the seventh film in George Lucas’ epic sci-fi series has been completed.
“We’re working really hard and we’ve got our script and we’re in deep prep. Full steam ahead, y’know,” he said during a recent appearance at the Television Critics Association.
Abrams said details of the new Star Wars film, which is not expected to hit cinemas until 2015, are so secret that the windows of his production company office in Los Angeles have been blacked out so nobody can take a peek.
Other rumoured cast members of Star Wars: Episode VII include Australian actor Hugo Weaving, who appeared in the Matrix films, Michael Fassbender, and Girls actor Adam Driver.
