Seasoned Australian television presenter Sonia Kruger rubbed more than a few people the wrong way after she snuck onto the Oscars red carpet earlier this week.
The 57-year-old was reporting on behalf of Sunrise and ”jumped the fence” from the enclosure she, and other international media were being confined to, to a media area that provided her access to the event’s biggest A-lister attendees.
During her live cross, Sonia confessed that she was getting dirty looks from other media who refused to break the rules (unlike herself) to win coveted interviews with the Hollywood elite.
But as you can surely imagine, not everything was as it seemed.
”You can see that everybody has now been corralled behind what we call in television, I think the technical term for this is pig pen,” Sonia told the camera.
”Now the weird thing is, we have exclusive access to be out here on the red carpet, so we are getting death stares from these people who are like, ‘Why is Australian television allowed on the red carpet like this?” she then joked.
Back in Sydney at the Sunrise studios even the social media team were shocked at Sonia’s unprecedented access to the crème de la crème of Hollywood elite.
”Sonia Kruger has jumped the fence where the rest of the media is forced to stay as she prepares to be ready to rub shoulders with the world’s biggest stars on the champagne carpet at this year’s Academy Awards,” the Sunrise account shared.
During the live broadcast, Sonia caught up with the likes of Nicole Kidman and doting country musician husband Keith Urban, Elvis director Baz Luhrmann and Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller.
Perhaps the most interesting (or should we say amusing) detail from the live broadcast that started on Sunrise and moved to The Morning Show was Sonia’s shoe choice – a pair of fluffy slippers – for maximum comfort of course.
Matching the lilac shoes, Sonia stunned in a strapless sparkling dress that surely dazzling viewers tuning in from home.
Despite standing at 5 foot 8 inches, Sonia also made sure to bring along a small box to bolster herself above competing media.
Even if Sonia had ”jumped the fence” as fellow journalists we respect the hustle, anything to secure those interviews!
