Lupita Nyong’o‘s $150,000 Oscar dress was stolen from her Hollywood hotel room early Tuesday, according to TMZ.
Police believe the Calvin Klein gown – which was a custom creation by Francisco Costa and adorned with 6,000 white Akoya pearls – was taken from Nyong’o’s room at The London West Hollywood between 8 and 9 a.m. while the 12 Years a Slave actress was out, TMZ reported.
A the LA Sheriff’s Department told Us Magazine: “I can confirm a dress was stolen from the London Hotel that belonged to the actress Lupita Nyong’o.”
“We believe it was taken sometime during the day yesterday. We are looking at every scenario; when the cleaners go to clean the rooms they do it with the door open so that’s a possibility.”
The LA Sheriff’s spokesperson added: “Currently we are still investigating, detectives are interviewing and looking for witnesses.”
According to Page Six, authorities say they are reviewing surveillance footage that may give clues to the thief’s identity.
The 31-year-old actress wore the show-stopping gown to present the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor to J.K. Simmons at Sunday’s ceremony.
The London Hotel has since released a statement to E! News: “This is a terribly unfortunate situation, and we are working with law enforcement on their investigation.”
On Wednesday Nyong’o shared a timelapse video of her pre-Oscars which showed her with her “glam squad” in her hotel room getting ready for the event.
And the morning after the ceremony Lupita posted a picture to Instagram which featured the glorious gown as well as her pearl adorned shoes and diamond accessories.
The actress captioned the pic: “That was cool! #Oscars 2015 #DiamondsAndPearls”
On Thursday morning Calvin Klein’s official Twitter posted a close-up photo of the dress, writing “have you seen this dress?” with the hashtag “freethepearls.”
Lupita wasn’t the only celebrity in a dazzling gown at the 87th Oscar’s ceremony.
Margot Robbie – who attended the awards as a presenter – looked dressed for the wet weather in a sheer long sleeve YSL gown and a breath taking Van Cleef & Arpels necklace.
“I’m so lucky to be wearing it,” she told E! host Ryan Seacrest when he quizzed her on her outfit.
Cate Blanchett – who wore the most expensive Oscar dress ever last year in her $18.1 million gold embellished Armani gown – opted for chic and simple in a black velvet Maison Margiela Couture column dress with a statement making Tiffany and Co. turquoise necklace.
Naomi Watts looked phenomenal in a silver and black ensemble and our golden girl Nicole Kidman took a leaf out of her besties book in shimmering strapless gilded gown with a bold red waist band.
And while Nic eased up on the jewels she took her best accessory, her husband Keith Urban along to accompany her on the night.
