On Monday night, the 52-year-old released a statement alongside her children and former in-laws.

“Who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains,” read the tribute.

Simone met Shane in 1992 at a celebrity event in Melbourne, and they married three years later. The couple parted ways in 2005, but in 2009, they were rumoured to have sparked an unofficial on and off relationship.

In 2018 Simone revealed to A Current Affair that she found life with a partner in the public eye difficult.

Even though they couldn’t make their relationship work, Shane and Simone were able to co-parent successfully.

During a conversation with Confidential in 2010, the sports star shared, “Co-parenting is never easy but you’ve got to be a grown up and if you put your kids first you can do it.

“When people start using the children for their own advantages and don’t make them the priority, that’s when difficulties happen. Both of us have put our children as our number one priority at all times and that’s why it’s been able to work.”

Simone’s post comes shortly after their youngest daughter Summer shared her own personal tribute.

“There is no words. It feels like I’m dreaming, waiting for someone to wake me up and tell me that you’re okay. This can’t be real life. There’s no way that life is this cruel to the most beautiful people on this earth. There’s no way that I will never hear your soft voice again telling me that ‘everything is going to be okay’ or how ‘proud’ you are of me, or simply saying ‘goodnight’ or ‘good morning SJ I’ll see you in the morning, I love you…’ she wrote.

“God you made me laugh dad ❤️ Little did I know that was the last time I would ever see you dad ❤️ I’d do anything to hear that laugh again, anything to hear your voice, anything to have one of your cuddles, anything to be with you again just one last time ❤️ I wish in your final moments before you went off to heaven and before you took your last breathe that I could tell you everything was going to be okay, and to hold your hand and tell you how much I love and look up to you ❤️ I took our time for granted dad and I would do anything to have more time with you on this earth.”

Shane passed away last week from a suspected heart attack aged 52 and will receive a state funeral.
