Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the CBS Upfronts in New York, Colin Hanks gave an update about his stepmother’s health.
“She’s Cancer free, which is great,” he told reporters.
The 37-year-old added: “She’s doing great, she’s doing fabulous, she’s doing all well, and everything is safe and sound.”
Earlier this month Rita Wilson returned to her role in the stage production of Fish in the Dark and her Colin couldn’t be prouder.
“She’s doing absolutely the best we could possibly hope and is absolutely slaying them every night over at Fish in the Dark he told ET.
In April the veteran actress told People at the time of her diagnosis: “Last week, with my husband by my side, and with the love and support of family and friends, I underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for breast cancer after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma.”
Remarkably the 58-year-old was initially told by doctors she didn’t have cancer, until she decided to trust her instinct and get a second opinion.
“I’m expected to make a full recovery. Why? Because I caught this early, have excellent doctors and because I got a second opinion,” she revealed to the magazine.
Before adding: “You have nothing to lose if both opinions match up for the good, and everything to gain if something that was missed is found, which does happen, early diagnosis is key. … I hope this will encourage others to get a second opinion and to trust their instincts if something doesn’t ‘feel’ right.”
The Sleepless in Seattle star shared that her husband, Tom Hanks has been “loving and supportive.”
Rita has since become a passionate advocate for breast cancer research and early detection, “I am the beneficiary of advances in the field of breast cancer and reconstruction,” she says. “I am getting better every day and look forward to renewed health,” she said.
We could not be more thrilled for the stunning and inspiring Rita Wilson!
