In an interview with ET, Sharon says she suffered a small stroke in 2001.

A few years later, she was divorced by journalist Phil Bronstein, and lost custody of Roan.

Now 57, she says her children – she has three – got her through the trauma.

” They really look to me and they really depended on me,” she said.

“I had a child I was raising from far away that I lost custody of in the beginning, when I probably shouldn’t have been in court.

“But that’s what I had to do. So the fact that I was trying to parent long distance was something that really kept me together.”

Sharon says she has felt in recent years like she had ‘lost her place in the line’ in life.

“You get behind financially, you get behind in your career, you’re not at the top of the list anymore for anything. So I think the fact that people understand – when you have a heart attack, a stroke, cancer, whatever – that you not only have to deal with your health and your family, but you have to start over again once you are well.”
