Nollsy puts his shoe in it and addresses that ridiculously Aussie moment

The singer's promoter has addressed the classic viral video.
Shannon Noll

In a time where there has been such hate and darkness in the world, our real life Australian Idol, Shannon Noll, has tasked himself with the great responsibility of making us smile again.

Earlier this week, the top bloke popped up on social media helping a fan with one of the nation’s favourite pastimes.

Shannon, 41, was filmed showing off his solid rig sans shirt, pouring a drink from his shoe into a girl’s mouth, chanting, “shoey for Shanno.”

For those who may not know what a “shoey” is, it is the act of rapidly consuming alcohol from a shoe.

It doesn’t get more Aussie than that, does it? We expect it will be added to school curriculum any day now, along with other sports like Goon of Fortune.

Shannon’s promoter Rick Szabo has clarified the entire story, telling the Daily Telegraph it was filmed after the star’s show at the Parkwood Tavern on the Gold Coast on Friday night.

“Shannon had his shirt off because he was soaking wet from the performance,” Rick explained.

“He was towelling off and going to get a clean shirt and there were a group of fans backstage — he loves meeting his fans, he always makes time for them.”

“One girl had a specific request to get a picture of him pouring the beer in the boot for her local female touch football team.”

Continuing, “Shannon gratefully obliged. The video online is not the video from the girl who asked for the shoey, she hasn’t posted it at all.”

“It was taken by some other fans who were there. They seem to be getting a bit of mileage from it, it is what it is, but everyone wants to put the boot into this kid at the moment.”

Thank you very much Rick… We’ll put this explanation next to “dog ate my homework.”

Sophie Talbot posted the video on her Instagram page, musing, we expect ironically, “Australia has no culture.”

She then thanked her sister on the handle @brooklyncubis for recording the video, before giving the girl in the tape a big shout out for being a good sport, adding the hashtags #shoeyforshanno and #cooked.

The clip was shared by Brown Cardigan, racking up over 100,000 views, and it united fans across our sunburnt land.

One fan laughed, “Honestly, thank god for this!”

While another belted, “What a star!”

Even our favourite love guru and former Australian Idol host, Osher Gunsberg, got in on the action, proudly tagging his friends saying, “Grassy doing shoeys!”

The very first Australian Idol runner-up has become the unofficial go-to guy for having a good time.

Shannon kicked off his 2017 with a run-in with the law after he was arrested and charged with two counts of assault outside Adelaide’s gentleman’s club, the Crazy Horse Revue.

At the time, Shannon was in the South Australia venue following a performance at a music festival in Mannum.

Shannon was robbed of one Australia’s biggest accolades, becoming the very first runner-up in the inaugural season of Australian Idol back in 2003.

Alstair Longmuir witnessed everything unfold.

“He got really aggressive, and kept being like ‘I’m Shannon Noll, let me back into the Crazy Horse’, and punched a security guard. Then four policemen pinned him down and took him away in a police car.”

The charges were later dropped with Nollsy announcing on Facebook, “Justice prevails!”

Unfortunately for the singer, his wife wasn’t going to drop her anger towards the incident.

We expect Rochelle had some choice words for Shannon.

Shannon admitted he was in the “doghouse” with Rochelle.

“After a gig, you might feel like going out and having a beer but the rule of thumb now will be if I’m going to have a couple of beers, I’ll have them in the hotel room,” he said at the time.

“It’s a bit of a lonely existence in that way but it’s being professional and that’s the approach I will take. No more celebrating a good gig.”

We’re hoping Rochelle isn’t too annoyed about Shannon’s triumphant post-show celebrations.

Speaking of his mate’s arrest, Guy told us, “We all have a bit of rough night, we all have a bit of a bender. Shannon’s a great bloke, he’s got a good heart.”
