Shannen Doherty’s cancer battle reached an emotional climax recently, when she told her husband Kurt Iswarienko her deepest fears.
The actress told her husband that the pair did not have the luxury of taking a single moment in their lives for granted, given her breast cancer diagnosis.
“I told him, ‘You need to enjoy every single second you have with me because I’m going to be dead in five years,’ and he just burst out in tears,” the 45-year-old confessed during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight.
She also recalled the exact moment she told her partner the heartbreaking news.
Shannen has gushed about her husband Kurt’s supportive nature.
“I called him, which was horrible of me,” she said. “I was in the car. I was with my mum, and the doctor called me and I’m, you know, ‘I’m going to wait until I see him,’ and I just couldn’t. So I picked up the phone and I called him and he was like, ‘Where are you?'”
The news shocked him, and the second that Shannen’s car pulled into the driveway, her husband was there to support her.
Shannen says she and her husband refuse to take anything for granted now.
“[He] hugged me and said, ‘We are going to get through this. You are going to be okay,'” the actress said.
“We are going to get through this, you’re strong and you’re powerful and you’re not going anywhere. You have so much to do in your life. We are going to get through it as a family.'”
And Shannen confesses that her devasating diagnosis has actually strengthened her marriage.
She admits the cancer has made her marriage with Kurt stronger than ever.
“My marriage was always strong, but it’s made my marriage a thousand times stronger,” she explained. “I could not have gotten through this without my husband.”
Meanwhile the Charmed actress says it was actually her dog who first detected her breast cancer.

She says her german shepherd Bowie began constantly sniffing around the exact area where her tumour was located.
Shannen admits she was confused at what the dog was doing, and it wasn’t until she was diagnosed that it fell into place.
“When I got back from surgery, [Bowie] again was kind of right in this area.
“Then when I had my first chemo, she would sniff my entire body up and down. And she was always protective before, but she has become this crazy, protective dog. It’s hard to get close to me when she’s around.”
