Colombian singing sensation Shakira has confirmed that she and her partner, soccer star Gerard Pique are expecting their second child together.
The couple welcomed their first son – 18-month-old Milan to the world in January 2013.
Shakira, 37, made her new announcement in the Spanish-language version of Cosmopolitan, telling the magazine “Pues sí, la verdad es que sí, estoy embarazada,” which translates to “Yes, the truth is that yes, I am pregnant.”
The pair first met during the 2010 World Cup when Shakira was promoting and performing her world cup anthem “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa).” Gerard, 27, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for FC Barcelona and the Spain national team.
In a kind of anniversary, both Gerard and Shakira participated again in this year’s World Cup, with Shakira performing her new World Cup single “La La La (Brazil 2014)” at the closing ceremony . “If it wasn’t for the World Cup, my son Milan would not be here,” she told the Associated Press before performing.
Shakira, who was formerly a judge on the US version of The Voice, has previously told Latina magazine, “If it weren’t because of my music projects, I would be pregnant already. I would love to have eight or nine kids with Gerard—my own football team.”
She also talked about how motherhood has changed her since having son Milan: “When you have a baby, when you feel his love, you feel so at peace with the world,” she said. “You just want to share the good news and share how happy you feel.”
