ACTOR Sean Penn says that his article and interview with drug lord El Chapo in Rolling Stone was a ‘failure’ because it did not spark a conversation about the war on drugs.
In an interview with Sixty Minutes in the US, Penn said “Let me be clear. My article failed.”
Most of the commentary was about the surreal nature of the interview – Penn in the jungle, talking about how he couldn’t stop a fart coming out while he shook hands with El Chapo – and not about whether the war on drugs is working.
“I have a regret that the entire discussion about this article ignores its purpose,” Penn said, “which was to try to contribute to this discussion about the policy in the war on drugs.”
“Let’s go to the big picture of what we all want. We all want this drug problem to stop. But how much time have they spent in the last week since this article come out, talking about that? One per cent?”
