Glenn McGrath’s new love, Sara Leonardi, tells Jonica Bray why they want children…soon.
She’s only 28, but her relationship with cricket great Glenn McGrath means Sara Leonardi has walked into a ready-made family – and she can’t wait to add to it.
Sara has quickly become part of the McGrath household, made up of Glenn and his children, James, 10, and Holly, 8 – and she looks forward to expanding the family.
“Having kids opens your eyes to a whole new world,” Sara says during a candid chat at Sydney’s Royal Randwick racecourse. “You see everything differently, and that’s good.”
While Glenn confirms to Woman’s Day that Sara “isn’t pregnant” yet, he hints the couple might start trying for a baby together.
“Hopefully soon!” the 40-year-old adds.
Sara says she would never dream of trying to replace Holly and James’s mother Jane, who died of breast cancer in 2008. She’s adapted effortlessly to having them in her life, though.
“I absolutely love Glenn’s kids,” she says. “There isn’t one thing not to love about them. You only ever get one mum in your life and I’m never going to be that, but … you can have other women who you look up to and who love you, and that’s what I’m going to be for them.”
On weekend afternoons, Sara often travels with Holly into the city from their mansion in Sydney’s south to go shopping, or she can be found cheering at James’s cricket matches. On weekdays she’ll run the kids to school.
