And now the incredible Connie Johnson is sharing her hopes for final days.
The 40-year-old, who has been battling cancer since the age of 11, has admitted that spending time with her loved ones especially her two boys – Willoughby, 10 and Hamilton, nine, is her “highest priority.”
“Legacy with family is very different to legacy at work. My legacy with family is playing board games with Willoughby, and watching Hamilton get better on his unicycle, skateboard and bike,” Connie explained in a chat with the ABC.
For Connie and her actor brother, their childhood memories are their most precious – something she wants to pass on to her kids.
“I like encouraging those interests and sharing the little moments because that’s the stuff I remember from my childhood. I want them to have those fond, normal childhood memories with their mum.”
Connie’s three-decade battle to the demon that is cancer is coming to an end now. She explained that years of treatment had taken a toll on her body.
But the brave mum plans to give the nation one very big heart to say goodbye.
In the public sphere, along with her brother Sam, the pair have been champions in the fight against cancer after they co-founded the charity Love Your Sister to share the importance of early detection.
On May 10, Connie, Sam and her “village” will attempt to break an unofficial world record for the longest line of coins, which she’ll make in a shape of a filled heart.
All the money is to awareness for early detection of cancer.
“Let’s just make this the biggest heart we can make. On the day we are hoping to make it a $1 million heart.”
During his Silver Logie speech before taking home the Gold, Samuel declared, “Rather than rolling over, she is going out blazing with an attempted world record for the longest line of coins in shape of a love heart, hopefully the biggest love heart this country has ever seen, made from five cent pieces […] with the entire proceeds going directly to our scientists and researchers.”
And we think she’s in with a bloody good chance… After all breaking records is in her genes!
In 2014, Samuel smashed the then Guinness World Record for the most distance travelled on a one wheeler unicycle… All while raising over $1.5 million dollars for the charity.
The Gold Logie winner has no plans on stopping, with the clear intent on raising $10 million, Sam confirmed he’s taken a hiatus from showbiz until they reach this goal.
“I didn’t want him to retire. He still needs to earn a living while he’s flying the flag for cancer research,” Connie admitted about the Molly star’s decision.
“But he was quite decided, quite determined. This is where he needs to be right now in his life.”
