The 39-year-old personal trainer and former Bachelor has been running free online workouts via his 28 by Sam Wood Facebook page. but the new restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have led to a bit of chaos at home with wife Snezana and their three daughters Eve, whoโ€™s nearly 15, Willow, two, and nine-month-old Charlie.

In fact, theyโ€™ve even forced him to postpone his 40th birthday celebrations in May.

โ€œWe had plans on having a nice sit-down lunch with family and our closest friends but I donโ€™t know if weโ€™ll be allowed or if itโ€™ll be the right thing to do in just seven weeks,โ€ Sam explained.

โ€œBut if itโ€™s not, you can always do these things retrospectively when the time is right. Snez is 40 in October as well so it might even be a case of rolling things together, weโ€™re both born in 1980 so maybe we could have an eighties party or something but weโ€™ll definitely do something when the time is right together.โ€

He added: โ€œYouโ€™ve got to string these things- the big 4-0 youโ€™ve got to milk it for all you can. Some people like to sweep it under the rug and pretend it didnโ€™t happen but I think because we both turn 40 in the same year and with kids and everything being so crazy we donโ€™t let our hair down too often so we should definitely celebrate.โ€

Like many Australians, Sam is working from home and is running family-friendly free online workouts every weekday at 9am from his very own living room.

Over the first two weeks, a million households tuned in to join Sam, along with Snez and the girls, but like many of us, itโ€™s been an adjustment to everyday life.

โ€œIt is a bit of a circus at home at the moment but itโ€™s all for a good cause. It literally takes until 11 oโ€™clock to get the whole house back in order,โ€ Sam jokes, though heโ€™s happy to provide a service.

โ€œI think itโ€™s just what people need right now โ€“ something free, something that keeps them mentally and physically getting up and getting going in the morning especially when weโ€™ve lost all of our routine so thatโ€™s been really nice. I think getting the kids involved has been really popular โ€“ I saw Hamish Blake was doing them with his kids so itโ€™s good to see.โ€

The whole family has been getting involved with the 28 workouts.

Aside from working out, the Woods have been keeping themselves busy especially with cooking.

โ€œEvie loves it, sheโ€™s been such a good big sister getting Willow involved,โ€ Sam says, adding that cookies, cakes and muffins are often on the menu.

โ€œIโ€™m still going into the 28 office by myself some days and I get home in the afternoon and the house is like a Macedonian bakery at the moment- timing is everything!โ€

Though self-isolation has been a challenge, Sam adds that he and Snez, who tied the knot in 2018, try to find some alone time in spite of things.

โ€œWeโ€™re just trying to do things together as a family and then if we can get the kids to bed nice and early that gives us a bit of downtime at night just to unwind and catch up properly,โ€ he says.

โ€œItโ€™s obviously going to put lot of strain on relationships but itโ€™s early days and I think weโ€™re handling it ok at the moment. Snez is pretty unflappable so weโ€™re ok.โ€

As one of the franchiseโ€™s most successful candidates, Sam knows first-hand what itโ€™s like to be the Bachelor, but he hasnโ€™t got much on this yearโ€™s star Locky Gilbert who found fame on Survivor.

โ€œI didnโ€™t watch Survivor, I must be the only one but apparently he seems like a pretty good bloke,โ€ Sam confesses.

He also reveals Lockyโ€™s ex and former Survivor co-star Brooke Jowett previously worked with him at 28 by Sam Wood and is โ€œan absolute champโ€ in his eyes.

โ€œIโ€™ve never met [Locky] but I know Brooke because she used to work with me so I saw she was a bit shocked by the whole thing but Iโ€™m sure everyone will move on and heโ€™ll do a good job,โ€ he says.

โ€œI have no idea really but Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™ll form an opinion once it starts. Iโ€™m a bit out of the loop on that one.โ€
