The 84-year-old announced the exciting news in the Births, Marriages and Deaths section of The Times newspaper, which is owned by Rupert’s News Corporation.
The understated notice simply read: “Mr Rupert Murdoch and Miss Jerry Hall. Mr Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel Jagger, are delighted to announce their engagement.”
It’s believed the unlikely duo became engaged over the weekend while they were in LA for the Golden Globe Awards.
On Sunday they walked the red carpet together at the event and looked happier than ever. However there was no sign of an engagement ring on Jerry’s finger.
“They have loved these past months together, are thrilled to be getting married and excited about their future,” a rep for the Murdoch family explained.
This is the first public relationship for the billionaire since the demise of his 14 year marriage to Wendi Deng, 46, back in 2013.
Unlike the 38 year age difference between the News Corp owner and his ex-wife, there is a 25 year age gap between the Melbourne-born businessman and the former wife of Rolling Stones star, Mick Jagger.
It marks Rupert’s fourth trip down the aisle after he was previously married to Wendi, former Melbourne flight attendant Patricia Booker and Scottish journalist Anna Torv.
Rupert and Jerry went public with their romance in November at the Australia verse England game at the Rugby World Cup final in London.
