The Roseanne revival has been axed following Roseanne Barr’s offensive comments about one of Barack Obama’s former senior advisers on Tuesday.
ABC, in a stunning move, cancelled the hit show, which had ended its successful comeback season just last week and was expected to return later this year for another 13 episodes.
The swift cancellation was a happy surprise to many, mainly as the revival was sure to spark big ratings for ABC. However, those familiar with past controversies that have followed Rosanne Barr through out her career will know this move was a long time coming.
Besides a series of political gaffes, including tweeting out the address of George Zimmerman’s parents’ home, here are three very public controversies which continue to plague Barr.
Roseanne Barr posed Adolf Hitler for a magazine photo shoot in 2009
Back in 2009, Roseanne, who identifies as Jewish, modeled as Hitler for an issue of a satirical Jewish magazine called ‘Heeb.’
In the shocking photos, Roseanne is dressed as Hitler and pulling burnt gingerbread men out of an oven. There was an article alongside the images titled, ‘That Oven Feelin’, in which the author asserts Rosanne asked to dress as Hitler.
She addressed the photographs while talking to Paul Provenza during an episode of The Green Room with Paul Provenza. The actress said: It’s like a Jewish woman. And She’s dressed up like Hitler. And he’s in drag. Hitler. And he’s baking cookies. And he’s really proud of them. But he’s also looking off into the horizon because he has a dream. It was for Heeb magazine. It was their Germany issue. And who better a symbol of Germany than Hitler?”
She went on to explain she doesn’t “give a f**k what people think.”
“I’m just really old. When you’re post-menopausal, you’re just really crazy,” she said.
Rosanne sung The Star-Spangled Banner in 1990
Back in 1990, Rosanne was asked to sing the American National Anthem(The Star-Spangled Banner) on the field before a baseball game.
She did so, singing off-key, laughing and screaming throughout, then finishing by grabbing her crotch and spitting on the ground.
We know American’s take their National Anthem seriously, meaning this performance left many outraged.
Rosanne ran for president in 2012
She’s often criticised for publicly supporting President Trump, but did you know that Rosanne campaigned for a presidential nomination in 2012?
The actress received a congratulatory call from President Donald Trump himself when Roseanne earned record ratings on its US return, and it seems the actress has always had presidential aspirations, running for the Green Party presidential nomination in 2012.
She didn’t make it, but later won the presidential nomination of the Peace and Freedom Party.
After her initial loss, Rosanne curated more controversy by making transphobic comments about the Green Party winner, Jill Stein on Twitter.
There’s even a documentary about her run for president called Roseanne for President!
In the film, Rosanne says: “I’m uniquely qualified to serve the American people because I was a waitress for 15 years.”
Obviously, Rosanne did not become President but continues to insist her desire for the role was very real.
