It’s been 10 years since the Australian icon was tragically taken from the world too soon, killed by stingray’s barb off the coast of Port Douglas.
Many remember Steve Irwin, 44, as the fearless Crocodile Hunter, but for wife Terri, he was the love of her life.
“To me, Steve was my Prince Charming. He was my happily ever after. I still feel immense love and loyalty to Steve,” the brave mother-of-two previously said of her soulmate.
Terri and Steve’s children, Bindi and Robert, lost their dad and hero when they were just eight and three.
Their time with their father was too short and very sweet, but the pair have since honoured their dad’s noble work by becoming wildlife warriors.
Both Bindi and Bob have followed in the footsteps of their beloved father, continuing his mission to protect all of the world’s creatures and educate about the importance of conservation.
Speaking of how her father’s tragic death affected her, Bindi has said: “It took a really long time to understand what actually happened. For the rest of my life, I’ll kind of feel like he’s going to come home.”
“No matter where I go dad will always be with me. His spirit lives on. I wish he could fully understand just how much he’s done for me.”

Bindi paid tribute to her late father with this beautiful photo. “You’ll be my hero for my entire existence. I love you more than words can describe,” she penned.
Steve’s love for crocodiles began at a tender age. “The first crocodile I ever caught was at nine years of age, and it was a rescue.” Here, he shares a cuddle with a fluffy friend in 1996.
Steve found the love of his life in Terri (nee Raines). After eight months of dating, they tied the knot in June 1992. “We got 14 years of marriage; we had the best most fantastic adventurous wonderful life that you could imagine,” she said of their time together.
“I found Steve’s passion for wildlife and willingness to lay his life on the line so exciting,” says Terri. Watch Steve’s funniest moments in the next slide! Gallery continues after video…
Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo bloopers
In 1998, Terri and Steve welcomed their first daughter Bindi Sue Irwin.
And she absolutely idolised her daddy! “My daddy was my hero – he was always there for me when I needed him.”
In 2003, the family received another special gift in the shape of the couple’s first son, Robert. Little Bob was just three years old when his dad lost his life.
“It is incredible that we get to carry on where he left off,” says Bob, now 12.
The fearless father sure had a zest for life! “I have no fear of losing my life – if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it.” See how the loss of Steve still affects the Irwin family to this day in the next slide. Gallery continues after the video…
Terri and Bindi Irwin break down
“Those were the best days,” Bindi recently admitted beside these adorable throwback snaps.
Ten years, and not a day goes by that the world doesn’t think about the late Crocodile Hunter. We miss you, Steve!
