Reese Witherspoon is wasting away as she agonises over whether to stay with her lover Jake Gyllenhaal or return to her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe — who is begging her to rebuild their shattered family.
While Reese and Ryan have been estranged since November, when she filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences”, the couple have been spending more and more time together in recent weeks — lunching at Los Angeles health food restaurant A Votre Sante and jogging at the Brentwood Country Club.
Close friends say Reese, 31, first agreed to meet with her ex after seeing how happy their children Ava, 7, and Deacon, 3, were when their parents attended a recent school concert together. Ever since then Ryan has been asking Reese to take him back — playing on her guilt about the effect their divorce is having on their kids.
Despite her deep feelings of love for Jake, 26, and her lingering pain over claims that Ryan repeatedly cheated on her, Reese is telling friends she is tempted to take her ex back. But the star cannot easily walk away from her new romance — admitting that she is already “in too deep” after five months of secret dates….
