In her first interview since her arrest, Reese Witherspoon admits she said “all kinds of crazy things” to the arresting officer and made an “unacceptable mistake”.
The usually squeaky-clean star was arrested in Atlanta on April 19 for disorderly conduct alongside her husband Jim Toth who failed to pass a sobriety test.
Speaking publicly for the first time about the incident, Reese revealed that she told the arresting officer she was pregnant and when he said he didn’t know who she was, she responded with, “You’re about to find out who I am.”
“It was just one of those nights – we went out to dinner and had one too many glasses of wine,” the 37-year-old explained.
“We thought we were OK to drive but we definitely were not. We are just so sorry this happened. We know better than that. It’s something that will absolutely never happen again.”
Reese admitted that she “had no idea” what she was doing that night.
“I saw him arrest my husband and I just panicked. I said all kinds of crazy things to the officer. I even told him I was pregnant. I am not pregnant,” she said.
“I had no idea what I was talking about and I am so sorry. I was so disrespectful to him. I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better.”
The pint-sized star said the worst part was having to explain the ordeal to her two older children Ava, 13, and Deacon, 9. Reese and Jim also have an eight-month-old baby, Tennessee.
“We are so embarrassed by it but we just had to tell them that when you make a mistake, you have to take responsibility. We were honest with them,” she said.
Despite speaking out about the incident, Reese is said to be “deeply embarrassed” about her arrest.
She has pleaded no contest to her disorderly conduct charge. Her 42-year-old husband, charged with DUI, has pleaded guilty.
