Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum jointly announced their separation after nearly nine years of marriage in a statement this week, and now we know what may have led to the shock news.
And no, it wasn’t anything salacious — it looks as if the former couple simply buckled under the pressures of work.
Speaking with Page Six, a Hollywood source close to the couple confirmed distance played a role in the breakdown of their once-rock-solid union.
“Channing has been working non-stop, with four movies announced for 2018 alone,” the source said. “It is hard on a marriage to be apart so much, especially when you have a young child. Plus Jenna is in pre-production for the movie, Berlin I Love You.”
As a side note, Jenna also recently announced on Instagram she had been cast in the lead for a Fox pilot.
The friend added, “Both Channing and Jenna are devoted to their daughter and have worked hard to spend as much happy family time together, despite the problems in their relationship that the distance has seemed to magnify.”
We’re not sure if the run-of-the-mill explanation makes us feel better or worse about the sad news.
Channing and Jenna, both aged 37, confirmed their breakup to PEOPLE.
In the statement the pair said the decision was mutual and there were “no secrets nor salacious events at the root” of it. They also shared they will be remaining “loving dedicated parents” to their daughter, 4-year-old Everly and will not be making any further comments beyond their statement to the outlet.

“We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together,” they wrote. “Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.”
The couple continued: “There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realising it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible. We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents to Everly. We won’t be commenting beyond this, and we thank you all in advance for respecting our family’s privacy.”
Channing and Jenna fell in love on the set of their 2006 film Step Up before marrying in 2009.
RIP love…
