When Glenn Weiss won the Emmy for Directing for a Variety Special at the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, you would be forgiven for not really knowing who he was.
The director, who landed the coveted award for his efforts with the 2018 Oscars, was a behind-the-scenes man…until now.
During today’s telecast of the Emmy Awards, the director proposed to his girlfriend Jan Svendsen. On stage. At the Emmy’s. In front of everyone. No pressure, then!
If we’re being totally honest, the show – which had a very different format this year (i.e. powering through the awards with each winner only having 37 seconds to do their speech, minimal banter and minimal excitement), was becoming a little bit of a snooze fest, until Glenn got on-stage and woke everyone up!
“Do you know why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend?” Glenn said to his girlfriend in the audience during his speech.
“Because I want to call you my wife.” Goosebumps.

The crowd, obviously in shock, stood as his beautiful partner walked down towards the stage.
He presented his emotional girlfriend with his mother’s engagement ring (who had passed away two weeks earlier), and got down on one knee.
Saying “YES'” the audience erupted.
The awards show opened with Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson and Kate McKinnon, who led an all-star cast in a song and dance, “rewarding” the Television Academy for the “most diverse in Emmys history”.
Beginning with a monologue, the pair were delighted with themselves when they realised the academy had “solved it” – meaning the issue of “diversity”.
Kristen Bell, Tituss Burgess, Ricky Martin, Ru Paul, Sterling K Brown and the “token straight white guy” Andy Samberg and John legend all made an appearance with the addition of the “diverse” dancers.
